In 1908, Chen Chen arrives Shanghai to attend the funeral of his teacher,

hit by the mysterious death of the great boxer.
A few days later, a tablet bearing the characters "The Sick Nation
in Eastern Asia" is sent to the school by Hu En, who works for the

Nin Mu, the Association's president, demands the school to hand over Chen
to him in three days. Chen, at the wish of his colleagues Fan Chun-hsia
and Yuan Li-erh, is about to leave the troubled scene for a while. But
he changes his mind at the last minute - upon the discovery of foul play
in his teacher's death. Ho was poisoned.
